Thresholds represent, quite physically, a boundary between environments. A door may indicate to a visitor some clues as to what lays beyond it. It may remain curiously puzzling until opened. Quite often, doors locked or otherwise are gazed upon and appreciated without even being touched -- a reminder of the value of observation.
